To help keep the car fresh and demand high, Audi is sprucing up the 2013 Audi A4 and its performance sibling, the S4, for the 2013 model year. It appears that Audi has deliberately “nastied up” the future Audi A4 a little to better prepare the 2013 Audi A4 for the new RS4 range-topper we expect next year.
Europeans will get a 268-hp 3.0-liter supercharged TFSI V6 trim that falls between this 208-hp 2.0-liter TFSI and 329-hp (SAE rating) S4, but six-cylinder power is notably absent from the 2013 Audi A4 U.S. lineup these days. We’ll see what Audi has to announce at the Detroit Auto Show when they hold their world premiere press conference for the 2013 Audi A4 model. Look for the 2013 Audi Quattro to start at about $33,000 when it lands in the States this July.
While the updates to the 2013 Audi A4 line are relatively mild, it’s likely enough to keep up consumer interest in the 2013 Audi A4 Avant, sedan and go-fast S4 high until Audi can complete development of an all-new, ninth-generation model in a few years time. The modifications to the 2013 Audi A4 begin with a new front fascia that’s not surprisingly highlighted by an updated version of Audi’s signature light banks.
The 2013 Audi A4 gets restyled headlamps feature a curved lower line that lend them a skinnier and more angular look, and redesigned LED running lights have also been added to the mix. At the rear, the 2013 Audi A4 benefits from skinnier taillights that closely match the units at the front of the future Audi A4, as well as a restyled lower bumper and diffuser.
Leading the tally of changes is a revamped thermal management system that heats everything more quickly at start-up in order to avoid wasting energy, a modification that Audi says aids in increasing the 2013 Audi A4 fuel efficiency by around 10 percent. All the same, the smoothness and efficiency that comes with it, along with the turbo charging and high-pressure direct injection, is translated into a slightly slicker powertrain for the 2013 Audi A4.
Having said that, the factory’s 6.3-second acceleration number to 60 miles per hour remains, as does the 2013 Audi A4 130-mph limited top speed. EPA fuel economy figures for the pre-facelift 2012 model Audi A4 automatic came in at 21 mpg in the city and 29 on the freeway using premium fuel, but revised figures for the 2013 Audi A4 model haven’t been released yet.
Competitors 2013 Audi A4
It’s not stretch to say the future Audi A4 will be the four-ring brand’s most important car, it is its best-selling model, after all; and with its main bogies — the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class — undergoing significant revisions lately, Audi has seen fit to counter with an update for its 2013 Audi A4 and S4 in order to keep up with the German Joneses.
The 2013 Audi A4 Quattro still has the edge in inclement weather performance over the existing 3 Series with xDrive or C-Class 4Matic, but its rivals are very good pieces of work and gaining ground. There’s also the specter of Cadillac’s new ATS sedan lurking in the shadows, and we suspect it won’t be long until there’s an all-wheel-drive model of 2013 Audi A4 to take this all-weather battle to new heights. Audi is only just now releasing the 2012 Audi A4 and S4 models to showrooms, so we likely won’t see the 2013 Audi A4 release date until at least the fall of next year.
